One of the masterpieces in the collection of Museum Kaap Skil is a seventeenth-century gown of royal allure, recovered from the Wadden Sea. This remarkable silk dress was discovered in a shipwreck now known as the Palmwood Wreck. Despite spending almost four centuries on the seabed, the precious garment has survived in surprisingly good condition. It is a truly unique find—very little clothing from the seventeenth century has been preserved anywhere in the world. Researchers expect it will take many more years to uncover all the stories and secrets this extraordinary dress still holds.
