Tomihiro Kono
Tomihiro Kono started his career twenty years ago as a hairdresser and learned the tricks of the trade in various salons in Tokyo. In addition to learning traditional cutting and coloring techniques, he also delved into the craft of akashimada, an ancient Geisha hair technique. Tomihiro has been based in New York since 2013 and makes complete wigs in addition to hairpieces. Kono has become a cult name that has become an indispensable part of the fashion and hair world. Maison Margiela and COMME des GARÇONS have already found him. Just like artists like Grimes and Björk.
The works of Tomihiro Kono are on display in Hair Power until May 7, 2023 at Wereldmuseum Rotterdam which is 1 of the 4 museums of National Museum of World Cultures: Tropenmuseum | Museum Volkenkunde | Afrika Museum | Wereldmuseum
