A mezuzah is a (Hebrew: מזוזה, literally: doorpost) text sleeve that is placed on doorposts according to traditional Jewish custom. It is customary that every time one passes through a door with a mezuzah attached to it, one briefly touches the mezuzah with one’s hand and then kisses one’s fingers that have touched the mezuzah. This is an expression of respect for God and a reminder of the commandments written in it. The mezuzah contains a scroll from Deuteronomy 6: 4-9
Marco de Leeuw has a soft spot for ceramics. For years he worked at ceramic manufacturer Plateelbakkerij Schoonhoven and made ceramics with hand-painted Delft blue. It’s a beautiful craft that you don’t see much anymore. Turning plates, casting molds, pressing, glazing, painting, everything by hand. Former fellow master painter Sylvia Brands designed the blue decor.
