Christmas decorations have a long history. Already in the Middle Ages, green branches were brought into the home to celebrate the shortest day of the year. The first decorations in green were apples and nuts. A tree full of apples also referred to the tree of Good and Evil in Paradise. Fruits were followed by other home-made ornaments such as paper crafts and cakes. The glass Christmas ball, as we know it today, was born in the city of Lauscha in Germany. The first glass Christmas objects were blown there in the middle of the 19th century. These paper Christmas balls have Delft blue motifs from the end of the 17th century. The basic shape is a dodecahedron, a regular dodecahedron, one of the five platonic solids. Models of dodecahedrons are already known from Roman times.
