Who doesn’t know her Vermeer’s world-famous Milkmaid – now available in a miniature Playmobil format.
The Playmobil set includes the Milkmaid with apron, a table with tablecloth, loaves of bread, a basket and 2 jugs.
The Milkmaid is a painting by the Dutch master Johannes Vermeer, painted around 1658. A maidservant pours milk, entirely absorbed in her work. Except for the stream of milk, everything else is still. Vermeer took this simple everyday activity and made it the subject of an impressive painting – the woman stands like a statue in the brightly lit room. Vermeer also had an eye for how light by means of hundreds of colourful dots plays over the surface of objects.
The fame of the masterpieces in the Rijksmuseum’s collections makes it one of the most famous museums in the world. But besides masterpieces like The Milkmaid by Vermeer, Self-portrait by Van Gogh, The Merry Family by Jan Steen and Rembrandt’s Night Watch, there are many other pieces in the collection that could take you by surprise and capture your imagination. No matter how old you are, or where you’re from, you’ll discover something new at the Rijksmuseum. And for that, you don’t even need to leave your chair – the museum features a wide range of online exhibitions and digitally accessible works of art.
