Made In China
The exhibition Made in China is now on display at Wereldmuseum Rotterdam. In this exhibition, the museum examines the past and present of ‘making’. Because making is timeless and inextricably linked to being human. In this way, we reflect on the world around us and at the same time shape it. Made in China takes China as a case study for a new perspective on making. With a mix of objects, timelines, art, fashion, photos and videos, the exhibition shows the making culture of China, which is centuries old and at the same time very much alive. The various meanings of ‘making’ are also examined through the lens of contemporary artists and designers such as Cao Fei, Susan Fang, Jing He, Ma Ke, Li Xiaofeng and Yang Yongliang. They are not only makers, but also reflect on different aspects of making in their work.
