Glass - made in antiquity

In the exhibition “Glass: Made in Antiquity,” the Allard Pierson Museum presents over 200 glass objects from its archaeological collection. Transparent or opaque, in vibrant or muted colors, elegantly decorated, and in unusual shapes—it is remarkable that such a fragile material has retained its beauty for centuries. Equally remarkable is the craftsmanship with which these utilitarian and decorative objects were created. In recent years, state-of-the-art research methods have been employed to explore the technical aspects of ancient glass in greater detail. Visitors to the exhibition can appreciate the beauty of the collection while simultaneously learning more about the sophisticated glassmaking techniques of antiquity.

The exhibition runs from May 16, 2025, to November 1, 2026.
