J. F. van Baarssen researches the history of Chinese and Japanese export porcelain from the 17th and 18th centuries. Before 1700, this porcelain was extremely rare and valuable, but the arrival of the Dutch East India Company (VOC) changed this. Furthermore, ceramics and art converge in still-life painting, a genre with a rich history. Six exceptional still-life artists contribute to « Stunning Shards. »
