Andreas Cellarius(1559 – 1665) was a Dutch/German mathematician and astronomer who published his atlas Harmonia Macrocosmica around 1660. This print is an exact replica of the colored copperplate as it was published in the original atlas. The vivid colors and images on these celestial maps are spectacular works of art all on their own. Even in the mid 17th century, these pictures were sold individually because of their highly decorative value and beautiful colours.
