Take your daily ‘tools’ with you in the Depot Toolbelt

Press release |Take your daily ‘tools’ with you in the Depot Toolbelt designed by Studio AnoukxVera

After an initial successful collaboration between designers Studio AnoukxVera and the Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen, the two Rotterdam brands are coming up with a follow-up and launching the modular Depot Toolbelt.

The Depot Toolbelt is designed to carry your everyday ‘tools’. It is a modular concept that consists of several interchangeable parts and is easy to carry. It can be used to carry your phone, bank cards and keys, so you don’t have to worry about losing them.

The design consists of the main belt, the basis of which is made of residual material from a sailmaker in Schiedam (a city where many sails were initially made), in combination with a silver car belt. This base can be expanded with different modules. The crossbody strap is made of strong material. And it is full of style designed by Studio AnoukxVera.

The Toolbelt refers to the Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen as a work building, which houses many tools for the restoration and conservation of stored works of art. The geometric design of the Depot Toolbelt is inspired by the futuristic nature of the Depot and launches in two color schemes.

So whether you’re at a festival, going on holiday or shopping, you now have everything at hand when you need it. For us it is ‘the most innovative’ toolbelt in the world. But don’t take our word for it! View the Depot Toolbelt yourself at Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen or online via the Dutch Museum Gift Shop!

The construction of Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen started in March 2017, and the iconic building officially opened its doors at the end of 2021. The building, which is owned by the municipality of Rotterdam, cost more than 200 million euros and caused quite a stir among the people of Rotterdam. The building was ‘under construction’ for more than three and a half years, visitors to the Rotterdam museum park, where Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen is located, could see a new icon being ‘born’ during the construction period. Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen was designed by MVRDV, it is a round, sturdy and functional building, based on a reflective teapot. The ambition was to create a building that seems to blend in with its surroundings, but which is also a safe house for the collection. The mirrored facade of the depot, consisting of 6,609m2 of glass, is divided into 1,664 panels, which ensures that the building visually blends into its surroundings and reflects the skyline of Rotterdam. The idea of construction both before and after opening and the form, function, and material is clearly recognizable in the Depot Toolbelt.

Studio AnoukxVera from Rotterdam is a collaboration between designers Anouk van de Sande and Vera de Pont. Together they design ‘worlds’ on commission that can consist of products, art direction, photography and/or film. The work of studio AnoukxVera is clearly recognizable by their playful and graphic signature. With their designs, studio AnoukxVera shape their worlds of sustainability and modularity in fashion and interior. Inspiration for their work comes from how people move and how we live in itself, something that is constantly changing. Working with waste and residual materials and making conscious material choices is a characteristic of AnoukxVera’s work, as is the belief that products can be adapted or expanded so that the product can move along with human growth. This is a second collaboration for Studio AnoukxVera and Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen. In September 2020, especially for the ‘Silver Opening’ – an evening in which special invitees were allowed to look around a still empty depot – the studio designed a silver Toolbelt made for the depot’s supervising staff, made from residual material from the Limited Edition Depot edition of designer Susan Bijl.
