The series was compiled by Hans Mulder, author of The Discovery of Nature, which was awarded the Jan Wolkers Prize 2021 for the best nature book of the year. For this part he selected the most beautiful prints of tropical flora from natural history works of the Allard Pierson, the collections of the University of Amsterdam – from ball amaranth to American coral tree and from musk seed to nasturtium. He wrote short texts for the illustrations about the species depicted, the maker and the source.
