Rotterdam city sketcher Jeffrey has created this print of the grain elevator for the Maritime Museum’s shop. Jeffrey has been drawing for almost all his life. He studied graphic and multimedia design and worked as a game- and web designer, but his love for drawing has always remained. This is why he went to the Art Academy in Antwerp and now works as an independent visual artist.
“I’m a city sketcher. I portray cityscapes and city people. My work is organic and full of life, details, feeling and humour. I like to give buildings and machines animal-like or human characteristics. I love colour, contrast and a whimsical line. I usually work on location and using observation, responding to my environment with watercolours, pencil and pen. Finally, my love for comics and urban sketching has also influenced my style.
I want people to be happy when they look at my work. I think there is enough negativity and fear in everyday life already… and I want people to be able to escape that (even if only for a short time). Or simply that it makes them happier in general. In the future I want to share more stories about my city, either big or small.“
These drawings of Rotterdam were drawn on location and using observation. They are drawn with watercolours, pencils and pens.
