(German edition)
Wassily Kandinsky (1866-1944) is one of the most important pioneers of abstract art. Born in Moscow, he decided to pursue painting after completing his law studies and went to Munich in 1896, among other things. to study at the art academy there. The locations for the rapid development of his artistic work were Munich and Murnau, where he lived and worked with Gabriele Münter since 1908. In the circle of mutual friends – Marc, Jawlensky, Kubin and Macke – the idea of their own progressive artist group took shape, which, founded in 1911, would write art history under the name “Der Blaue Reiter”. In the same year his extremely influential book On the Spiritual in Art was published. This set the stage for Kandinsky’s later fame.
