It gives an overview of a period in which clothing plays an important role in daily life. Important announcements were made known through the village crier, personal news was exchanged through clothing. In love, engaged, married, available or the loss of loved ones: almost everything was communicated through clothing. Were people in good shape financially or were they less fortunate, it could be read from their dressing behaviour. Showing off clothes and jewelry was very common. In a period of ± 100 years, almost every Dutch village or region developed a characteristic costume.
The book provides an overview of an important part of Dutch cultural heritage.
