The Caesar Route (De Caesarroute)

22,95

(only available in Dutch)

About ten day trips take you through mostly beautiful nature in the Netherlands and surrounding areas, with a surprising historical dimension. By approaching Caesar as the first explorer in our region, this guide aimed at a broad audience also offers experts new perspectives. Anyone who wants can see in Caesar’s footsteps what has never been seen before. At selected locations, or as a connecting Caesar route. Maps show the way, with an eye for young traveling companions. The richly illustrated and smoothly written story can be read independently at home, or as a travel guide per location. A new image emerges of the general who was further to the north than long thought, and who also wrote European history there.

Tom Buijtendorp obtained his PhD on the long-forgotten city of Forum Hadriani near The Hague, the basis for the house reconstruction in Museum Park Archeon. He investigated more cold cases from archeology such as the mysterious Brittenburg, visualized with the limescope in Katwijk aan Zee, and Caesar’s forgotten battlefields. The new facial reconstruction of Caesar for the National Museum of Antiquities is also based on his research and included in the first exhibition about Julius Caesar in the Netherlands. This guide has been specially published on the occasion of this exhibition in H’ART Museum Amsterdam.
