In 2018, the station of Assen was renovated by architectural firm De Zwarte Hond. Now, a large standing dog called Mannes greets the travelers arriving at the station. When Mannes detects children’s voices, a watery mist comes out of its fur. When it gets dark, 360 LED lights illuminate the sculpture.
The sculpture was recently renovated and now graces the station of Assen again since June 2021.
Mannes was commissioned by the municipality of Assen. A collaboration between artist Q.S. Serafijn and architect Maurice Nio, the sculpture is made of 100% Accoya wood.
