The objects in this book and in the exhibition in the Drents Museum come from the Historical Museum of Armenia. They are often seen for the first time in the Netherlands. The spell of Ararat spans an exceptionally long period, from the tools of the first humans on Armenian soil (1.8 million years ago) to the introduction of Christianity by King Tiridates III in the fourth century. The emphasis is on the rich burial mounds of the Middle and Late Bronze Ages and the precious artifacts from the time of the mighty Kingdom of Urartu and the period of the Kingdom of Armenia.

Under the spell of Ararat. Treasures from Ancient Armenia is the richly illustrated, first Dutch-language overview of the earliest history of Armenia, with contributions by ten archaeologists and ancient historians.

The exhibition Under the spell of Mount Ararat | Treasures from ancient Armenia can be seen in the Drents Museum from 11 May 2022 to 30 October 2022.
