The godwit, “Grutto” in dutch, was elected national bird of the Netherlands in 2015. This traditional Dutch meadow bird winters in West Africa and comes to the Netherlands in the spring to breed in the herb-rich grasslands of Friesland and North and South Holland. Its call is very recognizable: ‘grutto, grutto, grutto’.

This godwit is easy to assemble without scissors or glue. Hang him by the wings and let him fly by pulling a string on his belly.
