The paintings of the Dutch artist Eli Content (Vevey, 1943) are strikingly direct, fierce and full of life. Little suggests that his work was initially restrained and abstract. Eli Content, So much I gazed on beauty shows the surprising and unpredictable development of an artistic glutton and a multi-talent who was driven from the outset by an almost inexplicable need to create. His unique oeuvre ranges from paintings to artists’ books and from installations to graphics, and is particularly notable for his constant urge to innovate.
Published at the retrospective of his work in the Jewish Historical Museum in Amsterdam.
