The first comprehensive and richly illustrated monograph on Thierry Mugler, edited by renowned fashion curator Thierry-Maxime Loriot, has been published by the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and Phaidon Publishers. The book offers a glimpse into the world of this creative mind, and contains previously unpublished and relatively unknown material. The iconic couturier and revolutionary has continuously revolutionized contemporary fashion with his unique, imaginative vision since his label was founded in 1974. In addition to creating his iconic ready-to-wear and haute couture garments, the multidisciplinary Mugler is at home in multiple worlds as a photographer, director, choreographer and perfumer.
The beautifully designed and richly illustrated book follows Mugler’s career and reveals never-before-seen material. In addition to photographs of Mugler himself, it also brings together work by a number of other great names in photography such as Helmut Newton, Richard Avedon, David LaChapelle. Guy Bourdin, Lillian Bassman, Jean-Paul Goude, Dominique Issermann, Luigi & Iango, Alix Malka, Steven Meisel, Mert & Marcus, Sarah Moon, Pierre & Gilles, Paolo Roversi, Herb Ritts, Francesco Scavullo, Ellen von Unwerth and Bruce Weber . The book features numerous sketches and unpublished documents, as well as Polaroid photos and other backstage photos from fashion shows.
