The Aztecs: one of the iconic civilisations from world history. Exactly 500 years ago, the great Aztec Empire came to an end at the hands of a handful of Spaniards and their indigenous allies. This landmark event is what sparked the major exhibition Aztecs at Museum Volkenkunde in Leiden.
Get face-to-face with a wide array of impressive artefacts, including as stone sculptures, refined jewellery pieces and drawings from manuscripts, brought to life by way of remarkable stories and modern-day insights. As an international collaborative project, involving leading archaeologists from Mexico and the Museo Nacional de Antropología in Mexico City and many others, Aztecs is unique on account of the international loans and masterpieces on display – some of which have not previously been seen outside of México.
A must-see for young and old alike, Aztecs will be on display at Museum Volkenkunde until 27 March 2022. Don’t miss it!
