Art Nouveau

Art Nouveau, meaning “New Art,” emerged in the late 19th and early 20th centuries as a revolutionary international movement in art, architecture, and design. This style is known for its flowing, organic lines, often inspired by the elegant curves of plants and flowers. Characterized by a sense of dynamism, Art Nouveau frequently embraced asymmetry and graceful, “whiplash” curves to evoke movement. Innovators of the style used modern materials like iron, glass, and ceramics to create unique, bold forms and more open, expansive spaces. Flourishing during the Belle Époque from 1890 to 1910, Art Nouveau represented a break from the rigid academic traditions and historicism of 19th-century art and architecture.
