Shopper Blaeu World Map

Press release | Selected products by the National Maritime Museum now available at DMGS

A shopper featuring a map by the Dutch cartographer Joan Blaeu, a paper model of the steamship Christiaan Brunings or a water bottle inspired by the iconic roof of the courtyard of the National Maritime Museum are now available on www.dutchmuseumgiftshop.nl.

Het Scheepvaartmuseum (The National Maritime Museum) shows how strongly the maritime world and society are connected and specifically what impact this has on the lives of so many individuals. The museum now joins the other museums already featured on Dutch Museum Gift Shop to offer their unique range of products.

Fine examples are the water bottle and tea light holder inspired by the iconic glass roof of the museum courtyard, figuratively and literally the highlight of the museum. The self-supporting construction consists of thousands of pieces of glass in a metal frame and is inspired by compass lines on old sea charts.

You can explore the world, with the world on your shoulder with the shopper featuring one of the maps from the cartographer Joan Blaeu. This shopper is part of one of the themed gift sets specifically assembled by The National Maritime Museum for DMGS. Next to this gift set there are also gift sets inspired by the Royal Barge, works by Atelier Willaerts, the Naval Battle of Gibraltar and (for the little sailors) the Mouse Mansion.

With the arrival of the National Maritime Museum, DMGS expands further. Since the website went live in May 2020 it has given museums the opportunity to generate additional income. The Rijksmuseum, Eye Filmmuseum, Kunsthal Rotterdam, the Jewish Cultural Quarter, the Maritime Museum Rotterdam and Het Tropenmuseum now sell items online such as catalogs, T-shirts and jewelery at www.dutchmuseumgiftshop.nl. Het Drents Museum will soon start using the DMGS platform to sell items related to its upcoming Frida Kahlo exhibition. In a short time, in addition to Dutch visitors, museum enthusiasts from Hong Kong to New York were able to find the website.
