Kor\u00e8 (Grieks: \u03ba\u03cc\u03c1\u03b7 “jonge vrouw”; meervoud korai) is de moderne term die wordt gegeven aan een soort vrijstaande oude Griekse sculptuur uit de archa\u00efsche periode die vrouwelijke figuren uitbeeldt, altijd van jonge leeftijd. Kouroi is het jeugdige mannelijke equivalent van kore-beelden.<\/p>\n

Korai tonen de ingehouden “archa\u00efsche glimlach”, die geen emotie toonde. Het was het symbool van het ideaal, dat de ontberingen van de wereld overstijgt. In tegenstelling tot de naakte kouroi, worden korai afgebeeld in dikke en soms uitgebreide gordijnen. Naarmate de mode veranderde, veranderde ook het soort kleding dat ze droegen. Na verloop van tijd ging korai van de zware peplos naar lichtere kledingstukken zoals de chiton. Hun houding is stijf en kolomachtig, soms met een uitgestrekte arm. Sommige korai werden kleurrijk beschilderd om de visuele impact van de kledingstukken en verhalende doeleinden te versterken.<\/p>\n

Er zijn meerdere theorie\u00ebn over de vraag of de korai stervelingen of goden vertegenwoordigen. Korai fungeerde ook als offer aan de goden of de doden.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
