In Vermeer you can watch the fascinating paintings of this world-famous painter with the well-known art connoisseur Nils Büttner. In addition to a clear explanation of his painting, Büttner also provides a versatile picture of the period in which Vermeer lived. Contemporaries, including Rembrandt, themes in seventeenth-century painting, the political-economic situation in the Netherlands and the role of Delft are discussed briefly and concisely. Büttner also talks about the stories depicted in the paintings, which are usually difficult for a viewer to fathom nowadays. This makes the paintings even more beautiful and makes Vermeer’s genius even greater.
