Misschien valt er wat te lachen

Peter van Straaten retrospective

Peter van Straaten passed away on December 8, 2016 at the age of 81. Five years after his death, Allard Pierson is organizing a commemorative exhibition about the chronicler of the post-war Netherlands from December 8, 2021 to May 8, 2022. Van Straaten held up a mirror to society, with the necessary self-relativity. His talent for portraying emotions is unsurpassed. In the exhibition, eight guest curators, including Els Timmerman, Van Straaten’s widow, examine various aspects of his timeless work. For all eight it was both a joy and an impossible task to choose the nicest, best or most beautiful drawings from that enormous collection. The results are impressive. More than 100 original works that show how current Van Straaten’s work still is. And… there is certainly something to laugh about.
