In the past (starting around the 7th century), tea in China was prepared by grinding tea bricks into powder and whisking it directly in a cup. However, in the 14th century, the use of tea leaves became mandatory, making teapots essential for steeping the leaves. The teapots and mugs that best enhance the flavor of tea are made in Yixing, west of Shanghai, from a local clay known as\u00a0zisha<\/em>\u00a0(purple sand).<\/p>\n

This clay is fired at high temperatures to create stoneware that is naturally waterproof without requiring glazing (as with earthenware). At the same time, its porous structure helps retain the heat, flavor, and aroma of the tea. Especially for the\u00a0Made in China<\/em><\/a>\u00a0exhibition, Yixing mugs in various clay types have been designed.<\/p>\n

Enhances the tea experience<\/strong>
Thanks to its traditional Yixing (zisha) clay body, this cup does more than look beautiful \u2014 it subtly enhances the flavour, aroma and temperature of your tea moment. The special clay retains heat evenly and allows the tea to release its character fully, while its micro-porous surface gradually absorbs the tea\u2019s natural oils and scent. Over time, each infusion becomes richer and smoother, with softened edges on bold flavours and deeper aroma in delicate ones.
