Saparua, Girl. Moluccan stories from the past to the present offers a fresh look at Moluccan history. This is only told to a limited extent in the Netherlands and, as Keppy believes, ‘often full of accepted misconceptions and even lies that have become clichés. Only a few people know exactly how things happened, how things actually happened.
In 2008, Keppy met pediatrician Dee Tamaela, daughter of Dr. L. Tamaela, founder of the Jong Ambon political association in Jakarta in 1917. Just like her father, ‘aunt’ Dee was also active in several areas for the Moluccan community in Indonesia. She said: ‘Herman, you have to tell the Moluccans in the Netherlands about our history.’
