From the democratic republic of Congo this mineral is a hydrated copper mineral. The name Chrysocolla comes from the Greek chrysos (gold) and kolla (glue) words. The name came about because the stone was used in ancient times to solder gold.
Copper-based minerals run the gamut of color, and this piece of cornetite really shows off the variety of blues and greens one can find in this rare material. This piece comes from the Starr of the Congo mine in the DRC – known as one of the finest sources of cornetite specimens.
