Rembrandt De schilder van licht en schaduw
€7,90
(only available in Dutch)
In Rembrandt, the well-known art historian Nils Büttner takes the reader to the Golden Age. Using sources from Rembrandt’s time, Büttner presents a nuanced view of his life and the significance of his work. In addition to the fascinating life story, Büttner also perfectly explains the effect of the special light in Rembrandt’s paintings.
He shows, for example, that the viewer is alerted by the light to certain emotions of the persons depicted. Misunderstandings about Rembrandt’s life that have taken root over the years are also corrected by Büttner. For example, at the end of his life, Rembrandt was not at all as poor as is often claimed.
