The Chamber Theatre of Baron van Slingelandt
Allard Pierson Museum
From February 28, 2025 to August 31, 2026
After a long period of storage, visitors can view the 18th-century chamber theatre by Baron van Slingelandt again from 28 February until the summer of 2026. For many years, it was one of the most popular pieces in the Theatre Museum on the Herengracht. This famous chamber stage is a small version of a theatre, complete with sliding stage sets. It was used to demonstrate how theatre worked. The sets were made by the set painters of the former Amsterdam city theatre, of which nothing was preserved due to a fire. The stage includes eight 18th-century and six 19th-century sets.
