Dordrechts Museum has been added to Dutch Museum Gift Shop Leave a Comment / Press release / By Valeria van der Poel After the announcement of De Nieuwe Kerk last week, yet another museum has joined our ranks. Products from Het Dordrechts Museum are as of now available for purchase on Dutch Museum Gift Shop, making it the 12th museum to have joined this platform. As its name indicates, Het Dordrechts Museum is located in the Dutch town of Dordrecht, near Rotterdam. Their collection spans across six centuries of painting, from 16th century altar pieces to contemporary work. The museum is currently devoted to the exhibition In the Light of Cuyp, which centers around Dordrecht’s most famous artist: landscape painter Aelbert Cuyp (1620-1691). While he did not achieve great fame during his lifetime, in the 1700s and 1800s a veritable Cuyp-craze came to emerge in Britain. British aristocrates sought desperately after his works to decorate their large estates, and many painters of that time were inspired by Cuyp’s tranquil landscapes and usage of light. In the Light of Cuyp brings together a range of works from Cuyp, many of which are on loan from British collections, with those of artists that were inspired and influenced by him. These include great names of the likes of Thomas Gainsborough, John Constable and J.M.W. Turner. The catalogue of this exhibition is now available for order on Dutch Museum Gift Shop, as well as two pairs of Cuyp-inspired museum socks. Dutch Museum Gift Shop aims to provide Dutch museums with a new stream of income during and after the pandemic-induced lockdowns. Since the start of this initiative in the spring of 2020, twelve museums have joined and more are scheduled to follow. Prominent names featured on Dutch Museum Gift Shop include Rijksmuseum, Tropenmuseum and Eye Film Museum.
