RETURN TO SENDER was founded in 2006 by Katja Schuurman, Tessa Vos and Maarten van Huijstee. Duringthe many journeys that Katja made, she discovered that the pourest people in the world are sometimes full of ambition. They don’t lack the will or the talent, but they lack opportunities. Next to poverty, Katja also saw wonderful projects and thus, during a trip for BNN to India, the idea for Return to Sender arose: fair trade as the engine behind sustainable development. 

The mission of Return to Sender is to help women build a life for themselves and their families through fair and sustainable trade. By introducing the women to the Western market in a sustainable way, they can immediately improve their living conditions and learn how they can sustain this in the future.
Seven Dutch top designers develop the annual design collection together with professionals from developing countries. A collection inspired by the techniques and materials from the country and the knowledge of colors and shapes of the designer. In this way two worlds come together in one unique product: handmade designer products with a special story.

Return to Sender has already contributed to the creation of more than 8800 jobs worldwide through the sales of more than 2 million products.
