Chantal Akerman was one of the first film directors to make the transition to the visual arts. She rose to fame as a feminist avant-garde filmmaker in the 1970s, and discovered the possibilities of the exhibition space in the mid-1990s. Based on the film D’Est, originally made as a documentary, she developed a large spatial installation on 24 monitors in 1995. This was the beginning of a ‘second career’ within the world of visual arts.
The portrait of Chantal Akerman is printed on a unisex Stella/Stanley T-shirt made of 100% organic cotton. Everything from Stanley/Stella is sustainably produced and finished to perfection.
