World Press Photo 2022

April 15 to August 14, 2022

De Nieuwe Kerk Amsterdam

On Friday 15 April, the World Press Photo Exhibition 2022 will open to the public in De Nieuwe Kerk. This Flagship Exhibition will be on display until 14 August 2022. The annual World Press Photo Contest recognizes and celebrates the best photojournalism and documentary photography produced over the last year.

Following the World Press Photo Foundation’s new strategy and to offer a more global and better geographic balance of perspectives, this year’s Contest is divided into six regions (Africa, Asia, Europe, North and Central America, South America and Southeast Asia and Oceania) and four categories (Singles, Stories, Long-Term Projects and Open Format). The 24 winners resulting from this were chosen by an independent specialist jury from and/or working in that region. Out of these 24 regional winners, four global winners were also chosen – the World Press Photo of the Year, the World Press Photo Story of the Year, the World Press Photo Long-Term Project Award, and the World Press Photo Open Format Award.

World Press Photo 2022

The renowned World Press Photo Foundation (“Connecting the world to the stories that matter”) publishes a compilation of prizewinning press photographs each year.

Carefully selected from thousands of entries, they present the most celebrated, powerful, moving, and often disturbing images from around the world, often putting a face on conflicts in far flung places and reminding us of our shared humanity.

The 2022 Yearbook, bringing together the best press photographs from 2021, reflects the joy, anguish, and upheaval of this incredible year.
