By Annemiek Rens et al.
Artists Christine and her brother Janus van Zeegen worked together in a special way around 1900. Their art is innovative in many ways.
Janus makes line drawings of motifs from the plant and animal world and Christine translates these into colorful embroidery as she sees fit. Christine’s needlework was extremely popular in her time. Janus experiments with sand and other materials in the paint on his own paintings. The artist couple receives praise from, among others, Hendrik Petrus Berlage, Jan Toorop and Jan Sluijters. Yet today they are virtually forgotten. This book shows the life and work of this special artist couple.
